The 2019 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) has come to an end with the final event, Round 9, that took place at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. For professional short course driver, young Christopher Polvoorde, it was a wild finale to a fantastic season and one that will not soon be forgotten. Polvoorde and the STEEL-IT Coatings / General Tire / TIS Wheels #94 Pro Lite were fast for practice & qualifying but had a destructive crash that ended his weekend early.
“It was tough,” admitted Christopher. “My crew gave me a fast truck and we had the speed to win. I went out and qualified well, which would put me on the front row. Unfortunately, a small mistake in Turn 1 would cost me badly. I ended up in the wall striking it hard that caused me to go flipping down the back straight. Right after, we were struck by two more cars at full speed. It was a scary crash, but I’m extremely thankful to my Simpson Race Products for keeping me safe & sound, allowing me to walk away with just a few cuts and bruises. I’m disappointed that I let the team and all my partners down. It puts everything in a clear perspective and the dangerous reality of racing is no joke. I am very grateful that all the drivers involved were ok and no one was injured. We’ll be back bigger and better for 2020.”
The rather abrupt ending to the 2019 season did not tarnish what was an amazing year for Polvoorde in the #94 STEEL-IT Pro Lite. Christopher, racing Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) and the Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League (LOMSCL) simultaneously, won eight races in a row taking the Midwest Championship and the prestigious Crandon Pro Lite World Championship.
“This year was one to remember for sure!” shared Christopher. “We made history winning eight races in a row and the Crandon Pro Lite World Championship to boot. It is a pretty incredible feeling and almost does not seem real.”
“There were lots of ups and downs. The Midwest was amazing! The West Coast was difficult and a struggle for sure. Every time we would make some progress, something would happen to move us back. We are always trying to move forward and progress. Everything we do, we try to make the trucks go faster and for me to drive them faster. That is the goal.”
“There were so many challenges throughout the year, but I feel like the team came together as we were clicking the entire season with zero bad vibes. The entire program was awesome and just totally on point. Nine years ago, when I started racing, I never dreamed we would be competing at such a professional level and doing it very well with a top-performing outfit. I feel like the team is great as is, but I see us doing even better and going even faster. I am excited for next year. We are going to throw everything we have for a Pro Lite championship.”
“I want to give special recognition to my Crew Chief, Jimmy Davidson. He was presented with the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series “Mechanic of the Year” during the awards banquet. That is a big deal, and no one deserves it more. Jimmy and I have worked together for five years, and I hope we’ll be able to for many more.
It’s been an honor to have him as part of the family. This year was a pretty insane year for our team, and I know I wouldn’t have been able to come even close to what we did without Jimmy. The sacrifices he makes for the team and I every day are selfless, and I’m fortunate to call him and his family part of my family.”
I also want to thank all the partners who supported our program. STEEL-IT Coatings, TIS Wheels, General Tire, King Shocks, Arma Sport, Brembo Brakes, Rigid Industries, Simpson, Rugged Radios, FK Rod Ends, Kicker Audio, Maxima Racing Oils, K&N Filters, Optima Batteries, Camburg Racing, Magnaflow, MPI Steering Wheels, VP Racing Fuels, ARP, Smart Whips, Molecule Sports Products and The Palms River Resort are the reason why we are able to compete, win and earn championships.
