Total Domination: Alumicraft Racers Win SCORE Baja 1000 & Take Top 10 In Class 10

Nov 23rd, 2022

Ensenada, Baja California Mexico

The SCORE-International Baja 1000 is touted as one of the most challenging races in all motorsports. This year’s 55th running of the event proved to be a tremendous challenge and truly lived up to that reputation. Of the 236 starters that competed, only 137 official finishers could make it through the 828.25-mile course. In the ultra-competitive Class 10 division, Alumi Craft racers took the win, captured the podium, and swept the top 10.

For the second time in a row, Alumicraft racecars have taken the Top 10 in class 10. At the race prior, the Baja 400, Alumicraft earned the race-winning victory, captured the podium, and a top 10 sweep.

For the 2022 Baja 1000, Hiram Duran was the top dog in his #1016 Alumicraft buggy, which he drove to a 13th overall finish. With a total time of 19 hours, 40 minutes, and 54 seconds, Duran’s average speed was just over 42 miles per hour. Following in the division was a fleet of Alumicraft racers. In fact, of the 23 Class 10 competitors that started, only 13 finished and most significantly, Alumicraft buggies claimed the top 10 positions.

“We knew that taking on this Baja 1000 was not going to be an easy task, especially fighting for the top spot in such a competitive and talented class,” Hiram shared after the race.

“Eric Fernando Duran started and raced up until race mile 250, where Evan Duran Jr. would hop in and take it to race mile 470. As the driver of record, I, Hiram Duran, would take on the final stretch to the finish. This course had a lot of challenges to offer, starting with the cold weather at night, which made it that much more difficult. Another challenge we faced was the race course’s brutality on the cars. The silt beds were over three feet deep in some areas and did not make it any easier on us.”

“Due to the heavy rains before the race, many sharp rocks were revealed on the course, making it hard for the drivers to push hard in the dust. Despite all of the obstacles Baja had, we had a flawless race. Finishing this difficult course on the top would not have been possible without our Alumicraft Race Car equipped with only the best off-road products on the market. I want to thank all of our sponsors who made this possible. Baja Designs, Danzio Performance Engines, BFGoodrich Tires, Method Race Wheels, Slime Products, Kumiaii Inn, and Alumicraft all helped us achieve this victory.”

Also on the Class 10 podium was the 2nd place finisher, Justin Buckley, in his #1064 Alumicraft with a finishing time of just over 20 hours. Coming in hot just under 1 minute later was the 3rd place finisher of Jose David Ruvalcaba in the #1099 Alumicraft. This podium effort, combined with a Baja 400 race win, earned Ruvalcaba the Class 10 Championship for the SCORE-International 2022 season.

Ruvalcaba’s co-driver Esteban Cruz stated, “We won the championship with this finish. We had fuel pump issues. We had brake issues. We had some flat tires, so our mentality switched from trying to win the race to trying to win the championship. And that’s what we did. We played it safe. We are happy to win the SCORE World Championship in Class 10 and can’t wait for the awards ceremony. We want to thank BFGoodrich Tires, Major Performance Engines, Dave Folts Transmissions, Maxima Racing Oils and SCORE International for putting on a great race.
